My name is Shannon Bauer. I was born in Michigan and now live right outside of Cincinnati, OH. I've always had an interest in art and loved to draw and paint as a child, but I took my first formal painting class when I was in college as an art major with a graphic design concentration. I've kept at it ever since. It seems to be the most effective way for me to clear my thoughts. (And now I just can't seem to stop...) Thanks for stopping by!

Tufted Titmouse
5x7 inches - acrylic on canvas panel
I like painting birds, but I don't often get good photos of them. The reference image for this titmouse painting came from morguefile.com.

Olive No. 8
8x8 inches - Acrylic on stretched canvas
November has been a rough painting month for me. I had a lot of unsuccessful pieces that never saw the light of day. I often fall into these slumps where I question whether I should be painting at all. When I'm feeling stuck, I paint green apples or my black cat. This month I've painted both multiple times. That usually gets me feeling warmed up to try something else, but this month I feel like I could still do more cats or apples... Please bear with me. I'll get to something else soon... hopefully :)

8x10 inches - Acrylic on canvas panel
Happy Halloween! I don't think pumpkin carving is my thing, but with some teamwork we got it done.

Sleepy Beach
5x7 inches - Acrylic on canvas panel
Sometimes I ask my 5-year-old for artistic criticism. He is usually overly nice. My real insight comes from asking him what I painted. Today he said, "Nice. I like the clouds, water, and grass..." So yes, there was too much green in my sand initially. I worked on it a little more until he could agree it was a beach.

Through the Gray
Acrylic on canvas panel - 6x6 inches
We've had several overcast days here. At least it seems that way. And although I do like to see the sun, there's something nice about a gray day too. They are usually good days for being productive too. (Not that I am productive every time it's overcast... Ha!)
I've been thinking I should do more in the way of promoting my paintings. I haven't been doing much other than posting occasionally to Google+, which has helped, but I feel like I am behind on all the social media stuff. I was thinking I might try Instagram first. If anyone is interested in following me my username is sbauerart. I can currently count my followers on one hand, but if I get that number up I'd like to do giveaways and whatever else I can think of... to shamelessly promote myself...

Let's Walk
5x7 inches - Acrylic on canvas panel
Had an unsuccessful hour spent fussing over a tiny painting this morning. I threw it away and painted this right after. I guess the hour wasn't completely wasted. The frustration seemed to help my paint strokes to become more loose, and I like this one much better.

Cloudy Day Drive
11x14 inches - Acrylic on hardboard panel
Another one from yesterday. Very cloudy weekend here. I forgot until recently how much I enjoy painting on hardboard panel. I will have to pick up some more soon.

Washing Up
8x8 inches - acrylic on canvas panel
Just when I was about out of every color, my parents sent me an early birthday present -- new paint! Even some new colors I've never had. I'm so excited to try them out. Thanks again!

Little Black Cat
8x8 inches - Acrylic on canvas panel
Here she is again. My little black cat, Olive. And a little break from landscape painting today... She's always fun to paint when I feel like I'm in a rut.

The weather is perfect here today. It felt so good to just sit on the porch and watch the clouds pass by.

Early Storms
5x7 inches - Acrylic on canvas panel - Available for purchase here
Lately I've had a hard time deciding what is more important to me. Sleeping or painting... I guess sleep wins biologically, but skipping painting when you feel inspired is almost (if not more) distressing.
