Bird on the Balcony

6x6 acrylic on canvas panel

We're back from our holiday travels.  I snapped some photos of birds at my mother and father-in-law's place.  I was using my phone, and when I zoomed in on the birds they were very pixelated.  But in this case I think it helped me, because I could only see simplified shapes and light.

Two Floral Paintings

"Festive Flowers" - 8x8 acrylic on canvas panel

"Picking Favorites" - 8x8 acrylic on canvas panel

A friend surprised me with some flowers that I've been enjoying trying to paint.  I might try to get one more painting out of this pretty bouquet.

Some Lemons

Sketchy Lemon - 4x4 inches - Acrylic on canvas panel

Lemon Halves - 4x4 inches - Acrylic on canvas panel

This lemon has been sitting around looking lonely since the last time I had it in a painting....  Even then it wasn't exactly new. I thought if it wasn't going to be consumed, I should at least paint it again. Maybe it's still edible... but I'm not really sure, and not one to take chances with old produce. So long, old lemon.

Three Shiny Apples

5x7 acrylic on canvas panel

Today was the Hingham Arts Walk and it was a good time! I was lucky to have an excellent location in front of Galatea at 5 Main Street where I could hear some great musicians like Mike Boucher and Jim Armstrong, and meet a bunch of really nice people who appreciate art.  I couldn't have asked for anything more!

Sydney No. 3

8x8 acrylic on canvas panel

This is my dog Sydney.  This is the third time I've painted her.  She just keeps hanging around begging for me to paint her.  Or maybe she just wants more food... I don't know.

This Sunday, October 19th is the Hingham Arts Walk.  I'll be participating for the first time this year.  You can find me in front of Galatea at 5 Main St.  There will be over 60 artists there to meet, local musicians, and other fun activities. Showing paintings in public is new for me, so I'm a little nervous, but looking forward to it!

Quiet Beach

9x12 acrylic on canvas panel

I've been trying to paint a little larger.  I know 9x12 is still not really large, but anything I've attempted in the last couple weeks that was larger than 8x8 was a disaster for some reason.  I'm glad to have this one at least.

Hoping to get to the beach sometime today.  Summer is swiftly passing me by.

Day in August

This painting was inspired by the view from my car in a Target parking lot. You can find beauty almost anywhere haha. :)

Affinity for Trees

Who has an affinity for trees you ask? One guess.  Always my favorite thing to paint!

Following the Moon

5x7 acrylic on canvas panel

I walk my dog Sydney every evening, weather permitting.  Whenever I see a full moon on a walk I immediately want to go home to try to paint it.

Grays

"A Gray Sea" 8x10 acrylic on canvas panel

"A Moody Season" 5x7 acrylic on canvas panel

It seemed like it hadn't rained for a long time here, and then on Friday it rained all day long, making for a soggy 4th of July parade in town.  Maybe all that rain impacted me a little, because since that day everything I've painted seems to have a grayer tone.

Luckily the fireworks were before Friday, and we had a great evening for them. :)

A Beach Day

8x10 acrylic on canvas panel

I threw my last seascape attempt away and thought I'd give it another shot today. In everything I paint I try to keep loose brushstrokes while still capturing the likeness of the subject. That seems extra tricky for me when it comes to water.  Well actually, who am I kidding... it's tricky for me with any new subject... But I'm going to keep trying!

Blustery Grove

12x12 acrylic on canvas panel

I painted over this one several times.  It's hard for me to keep loose on bigger canvases. It seems more intimidating...  Sometimes a little frustration is good though, because that's when I can let go of any attachment to what I've done. The outcome is usually better than what I was trying to preserve in the beginning.

Some of my paintings will be for sale at Paula's Little Shop in Hull, MA starting this Saturday.  It's a cute shop on Nantasket Ave. with antiques and art. Stop in if you're in the area!
