My name is Shannon Bauer. I was born in Michigan and now live right outside of Cincinnati, OH. I've always had an interest in art and loved to draw and paint as a child, but I took my first formal painting class when I was in college as an art major with a graphic design concentration. I've kept at it ever since. It seems to be the most effective way for me to clear my thoughts. (And now I just can't seem to stop...) Thanks for stopping by!
In your paintings when do you decide to use a color that "appears" to not be in a realist painting, like the touches of magenta in this one? I enjoy your deliberate brush strokes, To me they seem to be deliberate and confidant choices. I'm very impressed with your work.
Thanks Ken! A lot of times my underpainting pokes through, and this time I primed the canvas with red. Also, I've heard other painters say that value trumps color, and I don't always feel like I've mixed the perfect color, but if the value looks right to me sometimes I will just stop there :)
Love this painting.
