My name is Shannon Bauer. I was born in Michigan and now live right outside of Cincinnati, OH. I've always had an interest in art and loved to draw and paint as a child, but I took my first formal painting class when I was in college as an art major with a graphic design concentration. I've kept at it ever since. It seems to be the most effective way for me to clear my thoughts. (And now I just can't seem to stop...) Thanks for stopping by!

Yellow Bartlett
6x6 acrylic on panel
I tried to do some sketches from a few different angles before I started this piece. I admit I haven't done that in awhile, but I've kind of been struggling with still life lately and it did make me feel a little more in control and familiar with the subject before I started painting. I'm always anxious to dive right in with the paint, but in the end I think I might have saved some time from those few minutes of sketching at the start. I know, I know. It's not a new secret and it's quite obvious really. I just forget the obvious things sometimes, and then when things don't go right I think I'm just a terrible painter.... I should write all the obvious things down and keep the list close by when I'm painting!

I also just wanted to advise you that you should watermark your photos of your art. I have learned that sadly, there are people whom steal. I have had it happen to me before I watermarked everything.
ReplyDeleteOh I never thought of that... Good point! I'll have to start working on a watermark design.
